Health issues of a programmer and its treatments

In this generation, using computers is a essential for the number of people but not many of us actually consider the medical repercussion that working with computers can cause. Damaged eyesight, bad posture, arthritis in fingers and computer stress injuries that can be caused by sitting in one position for a prolonged period of time. The above problems are more frequently associated with old age but due to many factors such as poor constituent design, propinquity of the user to the screen and an excess of continuous working hours mean that the above problems can feature in both young and old computer users. This is an extremely important issue as computers become more important in every corner of employment the medical effects caused by them will elevate unless sufficient research is performed and time is dedicated into eliminating and reducing these problems as much as possible.

Here are some common possible health issues that workers may face while working and it’s prevention:

♦ Eyestrain and other eye problems – Eyestrain occurs when your eyes get tired from intense use, such as driving a car for extended periods, reading or working at a computer. Using a computer for long periods is one of the most common causes of eyestrain. This type of eyestrain is called computer vision syndrome. In some cases, an underlying eye problem such as eye muscle imbalance or uncorrected vision can cause or worsen computer eyestrain.

Tips: Adjust the display settings of your computer. It can help reduce eye strain and fatigue. You may also blink more often. Blinking is very important when working at a computer; blinking moistens your eyes to prevent dryness and irritation.

♦ Obesity – Obesity and being Over-weight seem similar but they are different problems, one being from genetic causes and other for lack of physical activity.

tips: Limit eating unhealthy foods (refined grains and sweets, potatoes, red meat, processed meat) and beverages (sugary drinks). Increase physical activity, limit television time, screen time, and other “sit time”,  and improve hours of sleeping.

Headache Headache is a pain that can be found anywhere in the region of the head or neck. Headaches can result from a wide range of causes both gentle and more serious. Brain tissue itself is not sensitive to pain as it lacks pain receptors. Rather, the pain is caused by disturbance of the pain-sensitive structures around the brain.

tips: You may ask someone to rub your neck and back, or treat yourself to a massage. Apply gentle, steady rotating pressure to the painful area of your head with your index finger and/or thumb. Maintain pressure for seven to 15 seconds, then release. Repeat as needed.

Musculoskeletal problems –  Musculoskeletal pain affects the bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerves. It can be acute (having a rapid onset with severe symptoms) or chronic (long-lasting). Musculoskeletal pain can be localized in one area, or widespread. Lower back pain is the most common type of musculoskeletal pain.

tips: • Therapeutic massage • Strengthening and conditioning exercise • Injections with anesthetic or anti-inflammatory medications in or around the painful sites • Osteopathic manipulation (a whole system of evaluation and treatment designed to achieve and maintain health by restoring normal function to the body)

Computer vision syndrome – In many cases, frequent computer users suffer from computer vision syndrome, which is a degenerative eye problem which can result in severely reduced eyesight , blurred vision, overall eye tiredness and even Glaucoma. Computer Eye Syndrome is an umbrella term for many problems but the causes of these problems can be easily identified.

tips: • Reduce monitor glare. Move things around or adjust the lighting in your home or work station to avoid glare on the monitor.

• Stay a good distance away from the monitor – At work, it’s generally a good idea to be about 20 to 28 inches away from your monitor. This optimal distance helps avoid fatigue and discomfort.

Has the world become overly dependent on computers ?

Technology has become inextricably in some people’s life. Technology has a great influence in our lives, but it has been depended on too much lately. We even use technology to do the most simplest tasks. We use it daily, but also see that it can have a negative effect on us . For me, the world has been overly dependent on computers. As we could observe, most of the people nowadays in this generation are using technology. Our whole world is run on technology. We have cell phones, televisions, computers, game systems, cars, even technology called the cloud where you are able to get information on different devices. People just use these resources like computers for our daily lives in order to save time and make things easier. Society are becoming increasingly dependent on computers and technology for functioning in everyday life. Every aspect of our lives has been affected by the infiltration of computers and technology. The modern civilization lives in the age of information and the whole information is concentrated in computers. Today, millions on servers all over the world contain the whole valuable information about the humanity and the World Wide Web called the Internet. The older ones are still getting used to the innovations in Information Technology and try to connect their life with computers to be able to follow the current news and the tempo of the dynamic world. Young ones spend the absolute majority of their free time in front of the laptop surfing the web and looking for entertainment. Computer games have become so popular, that children cannot imagine spending time outdoors, but play various computer games, which are often full of violence. Technology serve to help people and make their life easier and their activity more productive, but there has appeared a problem of the computer addiction or dependency, especially among the young ones. Computers can also lead to an educational environment where spelling skills are lost. Many word processing programs auto correct misspelled words and the writer never even knows that they have made a mistake. Technology are great things, and are very useful in everyday life. There’s so many reasons why technology are being used way too much. Some drives their vehicle while on their cell phones. They eat at dinner with their family while on their gadgets. Some watches television and are on their cell phones or computer. With the rapid growth of technology, there has been a debate on how we are using technology in our life. Many people think that we are now abusing modern devices to support for our own life. It makes our world easier to live as it helps people do all tasks effectively. However, that is not always true. Despite a wide range of benefits from modern technology, we can not ignore bad points it brings. Using modern devices for everything makes people more lazy and more passive in life. It causes the creativity of human beings to decrease which is very dangerous for mankind’s future.
